ABOUT

Rooted in the Hudson Valley. Built for the way this region works today.

Greater Hudson Valley is a program of Greater Good, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the region since 1987 and evolving to meet the small business economy where it is today.

MISSION

Why we exist.

Greater Hudson Valley exists so that more people can build meaningful, sustainable, and resilient lives and communities through small business ownership, connection, and opportunity, where they live and work.

VISION

Where we are going.

A region where anyone with the desire and commitment to build a business can find what they need to succeed, and where the businesses they build make their communities stronger and more able to thrive.

HOW WE THINK ABOUT THE WORK

Four ideas that shape the work.

Connection is the layer.

The region already has advisors, lenders, chambers, community organizations, and academic partners. Greater Hudson Valley is the layer that ties them together, connects business owners to the right resource, and links those resources to each other.

Success nests.

When a business does well, so does the household. When enough households do well, so does the neighborhood. When enough neighborhoods do well, so does the region. We measure impact at all three levels.

Start with the person, work outward.

Economic development is often measured in aggregate. We start from the business owner and the household, and work outward. Real people. Real relationships. Real outcomes.

Trust is infrastructure.

The region's support system runs on trust. We treat trust as something to build. We vet the network. We measure the value of the connections we make.

WHERE WE WORK

Seven counties. One region.

Greater Hudson Valley serves microenterprises, small, and locally-owned businesses across Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties, New York.

The region takes many shapes. Main Streets and industrial parks, farmland and river towns, suburbs and small cities. The way we work fits that variety, because the region's character is worth protecting.

WHO WE ARE

A 501(c)(3) with roots in this region.

Greater Good, Inc.

Greater Good, Inc. is the legal entity behind this work. Founded in 1987 as the Hudson Valley Technology Development Center, the organization is evolving to serve the region's small business economy today.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Who oversees the work.

The Greater Good, Inc. board is made up of practitioners drawn from the region's academic, economic development, and civic institutions, each with direct experience across the region's small business economy. Greater Hudson Valley is led by co-visionaries Noa Simons and Kevin L. Raper, with an active board of directors.

A NOTE ON ORIGINS

Not a startup. An evolution.

Founded in 1987 as the Hudson Valley Technology Development Center, Inc., the organization served the region's small and mid-sized manufacturers for nearly four decades through the federal Manufacturing Extension Partnership. That work of strengthening operations, adopting new technologies, and building workforces alongside Hudson Valley manufacturers concluded in early 2026, and our mission has evolved.
